Red Blades head to Boat Race 2018 – Strenue.4 December 2018
MIC Rowing Mr Dedlow chats about upcoming Boat Race challenge as our crew departed early on the morning of 4th December:
Boat Race 2018
The Annual Schools’ Boat Race will be raced on the Kowie River in Port Alfred on the 7th and 8th of December. Schools from all around the country will gather to contest the title of Boat Race Champions over the gruelling 5,2km course.
Our squad has been hard at work for the last three weeks in preparation for the event.
Balancing their exams and their training has been a tough ask but the boys have demonstrated excellent commitment on both fronts.
Our first eight had a disappointing Gauteng Championship but with a number of changes to the crew and a focussed training regime, they are feeling quietly optimistic about their chances. Returning as current title holders does not seem to phase the current crew who are feeling no more pressure other than having a ‘solid’ row in the time trial on the 7th.
Certainly, the crew has progressed and found some speed over the past two weeks which they hope to translate into a good performance.
The squad will depart on the 4th of December and spend two days familiarising themselves with the course prior to the time trial.
The 2018 Squad:
Hein van Rooyen, Timothy Rusznyak; James Weyers; Marc Durandt; Andrew Baxter; Liam Karovsky (Captain); Zia Kolia; Tristan Poulter and coxswain Hakeem Rasdien. Spares: Liam Howes; Glen McKenzie and Kyle Smyth.
All the best Team Red – go show your red grit, determination and passion.
