Community Outreach

OVERVIEW

KESCO (King Edward Community Outreach)

“KES boys doing their bit”

The King Edward VII School Community Outreach programme was started by the King Edward Johannesburg Junior Councillors of 2005/2006, Junior Mayor Puso Thahane and Councillor Warren Chalklen and is traditionally run by the Junior Councillors of the School each year. They are responsible for holding meetings, organizing drives (collections), visiting and entertaining the aged and disadvantaged, cleaning school desks, painting projects, establishing gardens, coordinating the bi-annual Blood Drives and for inculcating a spirit of giving and social awareness in the King Edward boys. The aim of this programme is to allow the learners of the school, through voluntary community service, to give of their time and effort to help those less fortunate than themselves. It is open to every learner at the School.

We have supported:

Cotlands, The Salvation Army, Phutaditjaba (in Alex), Orlando Children’s Home, Children of Fire, Oliver’s House, Hospice and Tree of Light, Johannesburg Children’s Home, Baragwanath Oncology Unit, Abraham Kriel Orphanage, Pieter Wessels Old Age Home, SANBS, Deansgate Retirement Home, African Children’s Feeding Scheme, Ikhaya Luthando, victims of xenophobic attacks and other worthy institutions.

Any donations of non perishable food, blankets, used clothing, shoes and sport’s equipment, books or of a monetary nature are always welcomed. We continue to support our own needy children at King Edward as well as the community with a hands on approach!
