SQUASH

" Since winning their first Gauteng Top Schools title in 2004, the squash First Team went on to win that title four more times. More remarkable is the performance of the first team in the local Johannesburg u/19 super league, having won the league for seven out of the past eight years. "

King Edward VII School is currently riding the crest of success after a number of successful years of squash, especially with our First Team dominating the squash scene in Johannesburg. Having been crowned SA Schools Champions in 2018, the First Team lost only one match at the 2019 SA Schools Competition to take a well-deserved, yet unfortunate fourth place. Unfortunately Covid-19 prevented the team from improving their position in 2020, a year that was earmarked for another SA Schools Championship.

The School has been fortunate over the years as we have had a number of our players ranked in the Top 10 nationally and we believe they will continue making their mark. During December 2019, Joshua van der Wath was selected for the SA Schools team to tour Malaysia and Singapore. During this trip Joshua won the Singapore u19 Open.

Numbers-wise, squash is healthy with 60 players frequenting the Old Eds squash courts during winter to hone their skills and enjoy playing sport with their friends. We all trust that life will return to normal soon and that the boys will continue to do what they do best; enjoy themselves doing what they enjoy most, spending time with friends on the squash courts.
