ADMISSIONS

"One of South Africa’s top public schools... a cornerstone of our nation’s transforming education systems that is critical to South Africa competing as a world-class nation."

Our School remains at the cutting edge of holistic education, ever mindful of our ethos, values and heritage. The rounded and balanced environment for which our School is famed combines legacy with leadership, high moral standards with high-tech facilities, all focused on an unrelenting goal for the boys we teach and mentor – Academic, Cultural and Sporting Excellence. While formal and informal aspects of education are interwoven, extra-mural activities teach lessons that cannot be learnt in the classroom - legacy, leadership and loyalty.

    GAUTENG EDUCATION ADMISSIONS

Please keep an eye on the press, social media and the website for further information. We are aware that parents are anxious about the online process and as soon as we have received a date for the start of admissions, we will communicate via all our social media platforms and website.

The admissions process has changed over the last few years and priority is given to applicants in the following order:

    • applicants whose place of residence is closest to the School within the feeder zone;
    • the applicant learner has a sibling attending the School or the previous school falls within the feeder zone;
    • the place of employment of at least one of the applicant learner’s parents is within the feeder zone of the School.

We do however suggest in the meantime that you visit the GDE Admissions website to see what documentation will be required for applications.

    The website address is https://www.gdeadmissions.gov.za/

    ADMISSIONS

Admissions to all public schools in Gauteng are done via the GDE Admissions website www.gdeadmissions.gov.za.

King Edward VII School is a school that concentrates on the preparation of learners for an academic tertiary education. The School recognises the educational need to differentiate in the education of learners, depending on what career paths are envisaged. The School thus reserves the right to advise parents on the most suitable education for their children, taking into account ability, interest, etc, as well as practical issues such as distance from home to the most suitable school.

    DAY SCHOLARS

    Application process

    1. All parents applying for a space in Grade 8 needed to do so via the GDE Admissions web page on www.gdeadmissions.gov.za.
    2. Once parents have successfully registered and applied through the GDE, parents need to submit the required documentation to the School as part of the admissions process.
    3. Application forms are to be accompanied by the following.
    • Latest school report
    • Copy of birth certificate
    • Proof of residence or place of work in the area (utility bill, lease agreement, proof of rent)
    • Copy of parent's or legal guardian's identity document

Receipt of application will be given at the point of documentation submission.

    Preference

Consideration will be given to learners whose parents live in “the area” as well as learners who have brothers already in the School, sons of staff members or Old Boys of the School as well as Grade 7 learners from the King Edward VII Preparatory School.

Consideration will also be given to the learners who are placed at the School by various NGOs and school support programmes on bursaries and scholarships for either academic or extra-mural prowess as part of their B-BBEE and community outreach programmes.

We also accept a number of learners each year who are part of the Student Sponsorship Programme.

    Feeder schools

“Feeder Schools” will be visited by King Edward VII staff during the year in order to inform primary school staff and learners about the application procedure. Schools not visited will receive all the necessary information electronically. This information will include application forms, information sheets, Scholarship and Bursary application forms, details about our Open Day, promotion posters and a School Magazine.

    Application status

Pupils applying to enrol at the School for Grade 8 will be informed via the GDE from the end of July. Please check your online application status on the GDE website.

    On acceptance

A deposit and development levy is payable immediately a learner’s admission to the school is confirmed. Separate deposits are required for tuition and boarding fees respectively.

    WEEKLY BOARDERS

The School has weekly boarding facilities for +- 80 Grade 8 places each year.

It is imperative to fill the Boarding establishments places each year to guarantee financial viability.

    Application process

All parents applying for a weekly boarding space in Grade 8 need to have completed the expression of interest form from August in their son's Grade 6 year.

In terms of our Weekly Boarding Applications, these are done privately and in conjunction with the GDE. The School is allowed to screen and interview potential candidates based on their academic and sporting prowess, their leadership capabilities, disciplinary record, social cohesion and level of independence. Preference is also given to boys in Gauteng who live far away from the School for whom weekly boarding is a necessity. Should your son meet these criteria, we will contact you for an interview.

Please note that completing the expression of interest form does not guarantee an interview.

Application for Grade 8 thereafter follows the same procedure as for day scholars, via the GDE Admissions web page on www.gdeadmissions.gov.za.
